The Position at a Glance:
We are seeking a detailed-oriented and collaborative individual to join our team. As the Planning Policy Coordinator, reporting to the Manager, Planning and Development, you will conduct research and analysis, and develop and implement municipal policies and plans pertaining to the Town’s community development priorities. You will be instrumental in advancing the Town’s strategic development priorities that meet the needs of residents and results in a more inclusive community.
What You'll Do:
- Research municipal best practices and policies, compare practices between various municipalities to identify strengths and weaknesses for the Town's implementation.
- Create or update Town plans, policies, or regulations (including but not limited to Official Plan and Zoning By-law); coordinate and track needed updates and their timing.
- Provide comment submissions to upper levels of government and other agencies on proposed changes to legislation, policies, programs, or regulations pertaining to the Town’s community development priorities.
- Prepare Town-initiated applications to amend the County or Town Official Plan and Town Zoning By-law and the necessary materials for the public process (i.e., planning justification reports)
- Create and contribute to various design and development guides ensuring they remain up-to-date and relevant.
- Coordinate with consultants on content, visuals, and designs as required.
- Prepare and coordinate marketing and communication materials (website content, social media content, survey content, maps, etc.) with consultants and internal Communications.
- Meet and coordinate comments with various departments on implementation projects.
- Prepare Council/senior management team reports on policy and plan implementation updates.
- Design, schedule, and coordinate open houses, public meetings, and related strategies to engage the public on projects.
- Liaison with landowners/developers regarding policy or plan update implications for specific proposals.
- Coordinate inquiries on funding opportunities from the Town and upper levels of government.
What You Bring to the Role:
- Education: Post-secondary degree in Land Use Planning, Economic Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, or related field.Membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and/or Membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is an asset
- Experience: One year of municipal project planning and coordination experience.
- Knowledge of Governmental Regulations: You have an understanding of the business of municipal government, including the municipal relationship with upper tier municipalities, the province, and the federal government as well as knowledge of municipal participation in housing solutions including housing programs at the Provincial and Federal level. You also have a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and by-laws affecting community development
- Analytical: You can collect and analyze information and apply logic and rationale when solving problems and making decisions.
- Attention to Detail: You have strong attention to detail by exhibiting thoroughness and accuracy in accomplishing a task. You are highly organized and have the ability to process detailed information effectively and consistently.
- Collaborative: You exhibit strong interpersonal skills and are effective at building relationships, networking, and facilitating and collaborating with others.
- Communication: You can effectively and confidently communicate with others and provide detailed reports that are professionally researched and suited to the needs of the audience.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making: You are passionate about solving problems, uncovering root causes, and proactively finding solutions to achieve organizational and departmental goals. You exhibit a strong understanding of corporate governance issues and the political environment in which you make decisions.
- Project Management: You have experience prioritizing and managing competing high priority projects. You can plan, prioritize, and execute projects from ideation to completion.
- Resourcefulness: You demonstrate a personal orientation toward action and accepting responsibility for the results. You respond to difficult situations or workplace requirements by using the available tools and information to support decisions and solutions.
What We Offer You:
- Salary: $73,879 to 83,953 per year (depending on skills and experience)
- Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
