The Planning department of the Climate Action, Planning and Development division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Manager, Development Planning. Reporting to the Director of Planning, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly, starting as soon as reasonably possible.
The Manger, Development Planning is responsible to lead and manage the Planning department development team, overseeing review of development applications and preparation of municipal planning strategies, policies and regulations to ensure high quality growth and development in the Resort Municipality of Whistler.
Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or Urban Geography (Master’s degree preferred). Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is desirable and must have a minimum 5+ years of professional planning experience with increasing responsibilities and supervisory experience working for or with local government (BC experience preferred). A background and applied experience in mountain resort community planning and development is considered an asset. Qualified candidates demonstrate leadership and vision in both the development of service levels and in the delivery of services and projects, have sound knowledge of trends, leading practices and legislative framework for development planning, and a proven track record that demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects that support community objectives. Qualified candidates have superior analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise good judgement in achieving positive outcomes. A record of building positive relationships, diplomacy, and tactful negotiation with the ability to constructively contribute to a teamwork environment and collaborative community is desired.
The successful candidate demonstrates strong leadership, the ability to achieve results by directing workgroups, excellent organizational skills, and the proven ability to effectively manage competing demands and multiple projects. The Planning Manager has excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong presentation skills, and the ability to both develop and implement service levels.

The starting annual salary for this role is $118,706.19.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s licence and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
